WHAT IS DIGITAL ACCESS?
Digital access is exactly that; the ability to access technology. Think about how many people you know who have a smart phone, a tablet, a desktop computer, high speed internet? Those people all have (drum roll please) access to technology! Nowadays it seems you can't throw a rock without hitting someone because they are too distracted from talking or texting on their cell phone. But believe it or not, there actually exist people who have no access to high speed internet and are still satisfied with prehistoric flip phones.
Digital Access Survey
This survey shows just how much high school students access technology daily. See how you compare with the results!
RESULTS
(out of 12 students polled)
- 9 said their favorite form of technology was cell phone
- Only 3 have access to internet outside of school
- 3 students also said they use their phone less than 3 hours daily. All others replied their daily cell phone use rating as "every waking moment"
ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY
You'll see from the survey several questions concerning "assistive technology". Assistive technology could feed into a fact why for some people digital access is so skim. Perhaps people who need specific tools and set ups in order to function technology do not know these accommodations exist. Take for example this photo below. This photo is a guide through the speech recognition setting for a mac.
